Why the pelican?

For those of you wondering why this blog is titled “Pelican Pondering”, let me explain. The mascot of the Loomis Chaffee School is the pelican, which appears on the Loomis family crest. The significance/symbolism is that a mother pelican will burrow into her own chest to feed her young when there is no food available, sacrificing herself for her young. As a ’82 graduate of the school and employee for 20+ years, I have an affection for pelicans.
